Performance braking systems for car: discs, pads and braided lines by Black Diamond and Ferodo. Almost 9,000 references by make and model, for road, track and rally.
The system works as a whole, so it is worth reading all three sections before buying just one part.
The three parts and what each contributes
- Brake discs — grooved, drilled and combined. They improve gas clearing and hold braking consistent once the disc is hot.
- Brake pads — these set the working temperature range. A competition compound stops worse from cold than a road one.
- Braided brake lines — remove the expansion of a rubber hose. The cheapest improvement here, and the one you feel most through the pedal.
Where to start if you only change one thing
The pads, if the problem is braking fading away under sustained use. The lines, if what you want is a firmer, more progressive pedal. The discs, if they are below minimum thickness or warped.
What makes no sense is fitting new discs behind worn pads: a used pad carries the imprint of the previous disc and will not bed properly on a new face.
A word on sizes
Moving to a larger diameter disc is not a direct swap: it requires different calipers and carriers. Keep the original size and everything in these three sections is a direct replacement.
